Enhance Hyperlinks with Keyphrase-Rich Title Attributes ("Tool Tips")

Title attribute or "tool tip" tags allow you to display additional information with hyperlinks.

In your source code, title attributes are embedded within hyperlink anchor tags, like this:

<a title="child abductions statistics" href=http://www.sitename.com>child abduction</a>

Many web browsers will show the title attribute description in a small pop-up box when end-users hover over a link with their curser.

As a side benefit, title attribute tags improve the search engine ranking of the linked webpage (but not the originating webpage). So, to benefit from adding title attribute tags to your webpages, use them with internal links.

For best results, the title attribute tag should be the same as, or similar to, the visible headline of the destination page.

If your webpage contains any linked images, you can include both an image alt tag and a title attribute tag. Here's a coding example:

<a title="Tips to Reduce Global Warming" href="http://www.sitename.com"><img src="global-warming.jpg" alt="Global Warming Action Guide"></a>

Keep in mind, however, that the search engine optimization benefit of title attributes is comparatively small. So, if you plan  to add tool tips anyway, you might as well use keyphrase-rich title attributes. However, if you have limited time for search engine optimization, focus your effort elsewhere first.
