Identify Keyphrase Variations
Adding word variations to the keyphrases on your list can help more internet users find your website. Once you've selected your primary and secondary keyphrases, modify them to use different tenses (-eds), pluralities (-es), and forms (-ings). It is not unusual to find that a keyphrase in plural form receives more searches than its singular version
If any word in your keyphrase is commonly misspelled, you may want to include the misspelling on your page. You can do this professionally by including a brief sidebar at the end of the article for "common misspellings." Users will see this as a helpful service instead of a mistake on your part.
Be aware that very common words such as "the" and "in" are not indexed by search engines. Because these oft-used words do not help search engines understand what they are "reading," they are not used to determine search engine ranking. Such words may be turned into "wildcards." For example, search engines will view "save the children" as "save*children."
The majority of search engines treat hyphens as spaces. The word "e-mail" will be identified as distinct from "email." Before choosing a keyphrase that may use a hyphen, use the Yahoo Keyword Selector Tool to determine which variation of the word is most popular.
